Spain is turning olive pits into road material that could cut asphalt emissions

Barcelona is testing olive pit biochar for sustainable road construction. This innovative asphalt mixture reduces emissions by approximately seventy-five percent. Olive pits are converted into biochar through a process called pyrolysis. This material locks carbon within the road infrastructure for decades. The project aims to create long-term carbon storage assets in urban areas.
