A shortfall of Rs 4.36 lakh was detected when cash sent from the Punjab National Bank branch in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to the Reserve Bank of India was verified. Upon further inspection regarding the cash discrepancy, it was discovered that there were counterfeit notes amounting to approximately Rs 7.40 crore.
