A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Tibet recently, following another tremor last week. Devastating flash floods hit the Tibet-Nepal border on August 26, causing widespread destruction. The disaster has raised concerns over the fragile Qinghai-Tibet Plateau environment. Rising temperatures and glacier melt are cited as contributing factors to the floods. Nepal's death toll from the floods has risen to 1,357 people.
